When Travel Plans Change

For months, I had been looking forward to this adventure.

I planned my route, packed my car, picked my campsites, and dreamed about the places I would explore. I was excited for quiet mornings, mountain views, new memories, and the feeling of hitting the open road with nowhere to be but wherever the journey took me.

But sometimes, the road has other plans.

After only a couple of days into my trip, unexpected circumstances meant I made the decision to head home earlier than planned. It wasn’t the ending I had pictured when I started planning this adventure, and I’ll admit it was disappointing to let go of the itinerary I had spent so much time creating.

However, one thing travel continues to teach me is that flexibility is part of the journey.

Not every adventure looks exactly the way we imagine it will. Sometimes the bravest thing we can do is recognize when plans need to change and give ourselves permission to choose a different path.

The places I hoped to visit aren’t going anywhere. The mountains, the small towns, the scenic drives, and the quiet campsites will still be waiting for another day.

My Banff and Kootenay adventures will simply become a future chapter instead of this one.

While this wasn’t the road trip I originally planned, I’m still grateful that I took the chance to start. There is something special about saying “yes” to an adventure, even when the journey takes an unexpected turn.
